The Myriad Turbine Proof of Concept
First Real World Demonstrator
This project is a huge milestone for Myriad, with the company moving from desktop design and simulation work to hardware deployment, achieving TRL 4.
This demonstrator is a 2kW 4-rotor system which represents a scaled down version of the first product, the 1MW 4-rotor Myriad Turbine. The demonstrator was installed in Scotland in April 2024, and has been happily producing power ever since. This is a 1/20th scale demonstrator by blade length, and is the first step into real-world trials for the Myriad Turbine.
FRAME Project
Product Development
This project focused on the development of the 1MW Myriad Turbine’s modular support structure, which is crucial to maximise the benefits of the Myriad Turbine. As well as this, the built in maintenance system has been developed to ensure that our turbines can be maintained in an efficient manner. FEA and CFD simulation work was used to highlight key areas of the design that needed further refinement. Iterative design has continued, improving the design of the Myriad Turbine to ensure that the system meets all the requirements of our customers.
Crucial work focused on defining a qualification roadmap based on industry design standards was also undertaken during this project, showing that the Myriad Turbine has a credible path to certification.
This project progressed the Myriad Turbine to TRL 3 and highlighted next steps in the development path.
Fast Start Project
Concept Design
This project was funded through the Innovate UK: Fast Start scheme and allowed the team to detail the conceptual design elements of the Myriad Turbine. This early work provided a springboard for Myriad, allowing the founders the time to flesh out a high level concept design of the Myriad Turbine, moving the technology to TRL 2. This was the opportunity to build on the ideas that the company was founded upon.
The project included extensive stakeholder engagement to ensure that design choices tackle the things that are most important to the wind industry. High level system and subsystem designs were conducted and a detailed feasibility study of the Myriad concept highlighted the huge potential of technology.
The Fast Start project resulted in a conceptual design that forms the basis of later detailed design work.
